A modern and multifunctional space for the empowerment of vulnerable women was created by HELLENiQ ENERGY in the center of Athens, in collaboration with the organization Doctors of the World.
The Women's Empowerment Center "Athena", which is housed in the Open Polyclinic of Doctors of the World, will operate throughout the year, offering a safe and supportive environment, supporting more than 250 women annually.
Through educational workshops, health promotion activities, as well as professional and social counseling services, it aims to cultivate new skills by strengthening the connection of beneficiaries with the labor market and to contribute to raising awareness both about their rights and gender equality.
The contribution of dozens of HELLENiQ ENERGY volunteers was decisive, as they actively participated in the upgrading and aesthetic configuration of the space, creating a functional and welcoming environment.
The project is part of HELLENiQ ENERGY's Corporate Responsibility strategy to promote equality, inclusion, and women's empowerment, through targeted actions with tangible social impact.
The Corporate Responsibility Director of HELLENiQ ENERGY, Ms. Georgia Lasanianou, emphasized: "The ongoing contribution of HELLENiQ ENERGY to the empowerment of women is a conscious choice. Through actions that respond to real social needs, we provide the necessary tools so that the beneficiaries have the opportunity to claim a place in the labor market, improving the standard of living both for themselves and their families. This year, through Corporate Responsibility actions in Athens, Thessaloniki, and Komotini, we will support at least 400 vulnerable women, who will be added to the total number of about 2,000 we have supported over the past 3 years."
The General Director of Doctors of the World, Ms. Eugenia Thanou, stated:
"This space will be a safe haven for women who need support and empowerment. We warmly thank HELLENiQ ENERGY for this substantial contribution. The new spaces will become places of learning, creation, and hope for many women."
Complementary actions in Thessaloniki and Komotini
At the same time, HELLENiQ ENERGY is implementing targeted actions this year in other regions of Greece, in collaboration with the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Greece (SEGE): in Thessaloniki, it is launching a training program for volunteers who offer work in the social structures of the Holy Metropolis of Neapoli and Stavroupoli on issues of hygiene and food safety, while in Komotini it supports the implementation of educational workshops for the development of basic digital and professional skills for women.
Ongoing support for women's empowerment
In recent years, HELLENiQ ENERGY has been implementing a coherent and expanding program of actions to support vulnerable women, with interventions that cover both basic protection needs and the strengthening of skills and employment opportunities.
In this context, it has contributed, among other things, to the upgrading and strengthening of accommodation and support structures, such as the "Ramona" shelter of Doctors of the World, while critical structures in the regions have been strengthened, such as the Shelter for Abused Women in Komotini. At the same time, in collaboration with the Hellenic Red Cross and the "Irida" Women's Center, protection, empowerment, and training spaces have been created and upgraded, supporting thousands of women and their children in Athens and Thessaloniki.
Particular emphasis is also placed on skills development and professional advancement, through initiatives such as WEHub in Western Thessaloniki, which, in a short period of operation, has supported more than 1,000 women, offering training, counseling, and a modern space for collaboration and creative engagement.
