In the context of the announcements by the Prime Minister from the podium of the 90th TIF, on Saturday, September 5, 2026, the establishment of accelerated depreciation lasting six years was announced, among other things, as an incentive for the modernization of the productive equipment of businesses, the Association of Industries of Central Greece recalls in its announcement.
As also emerged during today’s specification of the measures by the leadership of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, the cost of acquisition or construction, including the cost of improvement, renewal and reconstruction of machinery and equipment, will be depreciated over six years, instead of the ten years that apply today, at an accelerated rate.
With this regulation:
- Investments in mechanical equipment are incentivized and accelerated
- A corresponding benefit arises in the income tax of businesses
- Accelerated depreciation is more representative of the progressively increasing reduction in the value of machinery, taking into account technological developments.
The Association of Industries of Central Greece welcomes the adoption of the measure, which responds to a longstanding need of Greek industry for stronger investment incentives and faster renewal of its productive capacity.
The benefits from the application of accelerated depreciation had been documented by the Association, using parameterized three- and five-year models, in a presentation held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 by the Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics (LIEE) of the National Technical University of Athens entitled: “Unlocking Productive Investments: Accelerated depreciation for productive investments in Greek Industry.
The scientific head of the relevant study was the Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and Director of LIEE, Professor Angelos Tsakanikas, with the contribution of the Postdoctoral Researcher of LIEE, Dr. Petros Dimas.
The adoption of the accelerated depreciation measure is undoubtedly one more step toward the further industrial development of the country. The Association of Industries of Central Greece will continue to contribute in a documented manner to the public discussion on the development of industry and our national economy, recognizing the positive response of those who design and implement public policies.
