On the occasion of the specification of the measures announced by the Prime Minister last Saturday in Thessaloniki, the President of the Economic Chamber of Greece, Konstantinos Kollias, made the following statement:
The recent package of benefits, following its specification by the leadership of the Minister of National Economy & Finance, focuses on strengthening citizens' income, while at the same time maintaining the necessary fiscal discipline. The interventions are distributed across all social strata, with vulnerable households, pensioners and the middle class receiving the lion's share.
I would like to refer to some benefits, which undoubtedly have a positive sign, and which the Economic Chamber of Greece had recently submitted to the public dialogue:
- The abolition of the surcharges on imputed income linked to turnover and staff payroll for consistent professionals in the calculation of minimum income, essentially relieves them of an additional and unfair tax burden.
- The abolition of the business tax for legal entities, initially for the regions and subsequently for Attica, was a standing request of the market.
- The new program in the effort to address the housing crisis, with expanded criteria (My Home 3), as well as the tax exemptions for vacant properties, for vacant buildings and the upgrading of buildings, are moving in the right direction.
- The Demographic Reversal Plan, "Piggy Bank for the New Generation", is a commendable initiative, with the amount of support being significantly higher than in other countries, aiming to cultivate a savings culture among children and strengthen the financial literacy of parents.
The need to support small and medium-sized entrepreneurship is never exhausted. Addressing their ever-increasing operating costs requires the State to show alertness and readiness, so that it can intervene with even more decisive measures.
