Clarifications on the issue of transferring the source code of the Israeli anti-aircraft systems that will be integrated into the “Achilles Shield” are provided by the spokesperson of Israel’s Ministry of Defense.
According to what is stated in a relevant announcement, Israel will offer know-how and operational experience, so that Greek companies can develop the “Greek source code” of the program, as well as all the relevant modifications and additions required for the interconnection of the anti-aircraft weapons (Spider AIO, Barak MX and David’s Sling) into a unified command and control center (C2).
“Achilles Shield”: Mammoth agreement with Israel
In addition, it is emphasized in the announcement that the source code and the system itself will remain exclusively under Greek control and will be developed in a way that will fully cover Athens’ needs. The announcement concludes that, within the framework of the agreement signed by Greece and Israel, efforts are being made to transfer know-how to companies that will participate in the architecture of the “Achilles Shield” and it is noted that the “Greek source code” will be built with Israeli support.
See the full announcement:
“Within the framework of the "Achilles Shield" agreement, Israel’s Ministry of Defense and the Greek Ministry of National Defense agreed on the transfer of Israeli know-how to the Greek companies participating in the program.
This covers both the operational experience accumulated over decades in the development and operation of air defense systems and the technological support that will allow Greek companies to develop the central command and control software, so that the Greek source code that will be developed within the framework of the program, together with any modifications and additions to it, remains under exclusive Greek control and is adapted to Greek operational requirements.
It should also be emphasized that in recent years, within the framework of shaping the agreement, efforts were made to promote the transfer of technologies and capabilities to Greek companies, which will be integrated into the production of the architecture that will be delivered to Greece.
The claims made in recent days regarding the source code that forms the basis of Israel’s operational systems are not relevant to the "Achilles Shield" agreement, within the framework of which an exclusively Greek source code will be built with Israeli support”.
