By joint decision of the Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis and the Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Konstantinos Katsafados, which was published in the Government Gazette (Government Gazette B’ 5579/15.09.2026), a suspension is provided for twelve (12) months of the carrying out of any enforcement action against the movable or immovable property of natural and legal persons affected by the wildfires of the months of July and August 2026.
The suspension includes, among other things, auctions, seizures, evictions and personal detention, as well as the suspension of deadlines for the exercise of legal remedies concerning pending enforcement proceedings. Only maintenance claims are excluded.
The decision concerns natural persons and businesses that have been certified as affected by the competent Regions and have been included in the framework of state aid or in the housing assistance and household compensation program.
The suspension applies in the areas that have been demarcated as affected in the Regional Units of: a) West Attica and Islands of the Region of Attica, b) Achaia and Aetolia-Acarnania of the Region of Western Greece, c) Kefalonia and Ithaca of the Region of the Ionian Islands, d) Lasithi and Rethymno of the Region of Crete, e) Argolis of the Region of the Peloponnese, f) Boeotia, Euboea and Phocis of the Region of Central Greece, g) Kalymnos, Paros and Andros of the Region of South Aegean and h) the Metropolitan Unit of Thessaloniki and Chalkidiki of the Region of Central Macedonia and i) Lesbos of the Region of North Aegean, with the start date for each area being the date of issuance of the decision demarcating it as affected.
The measure is part of the framework for supporting those affected and providing economic relief to residents and businesses affected by the summer wildfires.
