INTRACOM DEFENSE (IDE) continues its dynamic growth trajectory in 2026 as well, strengthening its international footprint, expanding its strategic partnerships, and seeking an active role in major European and NATO defense programs.
As the company's Chief Commercial Officer, Efstathios Karagiannis, pointed out while speaking to Euro2day.gr, this picture comes as a continuation of the strong performance recorded by IDE in 2025.
Specifically, sales amounted to €77.3 million, marking an increase of 47%, while EBITDA stood at €7.4 million, recording a rise of 96%. The company's net profits increased by 149% compared to the previous year, reaching €3.1 million.
Particularly significant is also the course of the backlog, which at the end of 2025 stood at €294.4 million. At the same time, during the year IDE secured new contracts with a total value of €186.9 million, further strengthening growth prospects for the next period.
According to him, the above performance reflects, among other things, the expansion of IDE's international partnerships and export activities , as well as its broader participation in defense programs of NATO and the European Union. In the same context, the increased demand for advanced defense and communications systems creates additional opportunities for the company in international markets.
At the same time, continuous investments in research and development (R&D), as well as the strengthening of its production and technological infrastructure, play a critical role in IDE's growth strategy.
At the same time, the company has proceeded with a significant increase in its human resources by adding specialized scientific personnel to its human capital, with the aim of strengthening its expertise and capabilities in the design and development of advanced defense solutions.
“With a strong backlog, an expanded contract portfolio, and a growing presence in European and NATO programs, INTRACOM DEFENSE, as it goes through 2026, aims to capitalize on the momentum of recent years and further strengthen its position in the European and international defense industry,” he underlined.
The new contracts and the international footprint
Mr. Karagiannis also stressed that the first half of 2026 was marked by significant developments that strengthen IDE's international presence and technological footprint.
Recently, IDE signed a contract with MBDA Deutschland GmbH for the DEFENDAIR program, under which IDE undertook the development and future serial production of the DEFENDAIR missile's data link solution.
As part of the project, IDE will also undertake prototype manufacturing, integration support on different platforms, and the creation of the production line for the integrated communications system, both in the ground segment and on the missile. The agreement, as IDE's Chief Commercial Officer noted, leverages the company's expertise in missile communications and strengthens its position in the European Counter-UAS ecosystem.
In addition, an important development was the signing of a contract with the General Directorate for Defence Investments and Armaments (GDDIA) last March, for the supply of advanced Greek-developed, state-of-the-art communications systems to cover the Hellenic Navy's needs for secure high-speed voice and data communications.
The contract, according to him, confirms IDE's technological and production capability to develop advanced communications solutions for the Armed Forces and further strengthens its contribution to the Greek defense industry and the development of domestic technology.
Also, IDE's cooperation with the American company Raytheon of the RTX group is being further strengthened, as at the beginning of the year new contracts with a total value of more than $100 million were announced for the Patriot® air and missile defense system.
These contracts, as Mr. Karagiannis explained, confirm IDE's role as a strategic industrial partner in Raytheon's global supply chain, as well as the trust it has built through its consistent quality, reliability, and production capability.
Of particular importance, as Mr. Karagiannis noted, is also IDE's undertaking of a major project of the NATO Accelerating Interoperability and Standardization (AIS) Fund, for accelerating the standardization of Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) and providing guidelines and recommendations to NATO.
In cooperation with other Greek companies, IDE, as the Implementing Entity and main contractor of the project, further strengthens its position in a technological sector of high strategic importance internationally.
Furthermore, IDE's participation in major international and NATO exercises highlighted the advanced operational capabilities of the company's energy solutions in particularly demanding environments.
More specifically, the new-generation Hybrid Electric Power Systems (HEPS®) participated in the LOYAL DOLOS 2025 exercises in Assiros, Thessaloniki, in STEADFAST DART 2026 in Trauen, Germany, as well as in the U.S. Army's Project Convergence Capstone 6 (PC-C6), where they were successfully evaluated under particularly demanding field conditions, confirming their operational maturity and reliability.
“These developments are of particular importance, as they strengthen IDE's participation in major international defense ecosystems and create prospects for the further utilization of its expertise and technologies in international programs and markets,” the company's Chief Commercial Officer stated characteristically.
The company's growth course was also confirmed, according to Mr. Karagiannis, by its recent double distinction at the “Protagonists of the Greek Economy 2026” awards. IDE won the “Sector Leader” award in the Defense Electronic Systems category, with the distinction based on the company's performance in terms of turnover, pre-tax profits, and cash reserves for 2024.
At the same time, the company was honored with the “Greek Business Champion” award, in recognition of the strong growth it posted, with turnover and pre-tax profits recording an increase of more than 20%.
What the next targets are
“With all the above achievements as a legacy, the focus of IDE's strategy for the second half of 2026 falls on the effective execution of the existing backlog, on the further expansion of international partnerships, and on the exploitation of the new opportunities emerging in the European and international defense market.
Given the momentum of recent years, the company has set a target for 2026 of increasing its turnover by around 35% compared to 2025, while in the long term it aims to maintain significant growth in the coming years as well.
At the same time, it seeks to broaden its customer base and further strengthen its production and technological capabilities, in order to meet the increased demands of the programs in which it participates,” Mr. Karagiannis noted.
“At the center of the growth effort is also the strengthening of human resources. IDE plans to increase its staff by at least 25%, proceeding with the hiring of approximately 150 engineers and technicians. This reinforcement was deemed necessary in order to support the expanded production activity and cover the increased needs in technological expertise,” he added.
The opportunities from European defense investments
Asked how increased investments in European defense affect IDE's strategy and growth prospects, Mr. Karagiannis replied that the increase in European defense investments creates a significant opportunity for the Greek defense industry, provided that the strengthened demand is translated into substantial participation by the country in collaborative European programs for development, production, and technological innovation.
Of decisive importance in this direction is, as he stressed, the active utilization and strengthening of the domestic Technological and Industrial Base, so as to ensure the substantial involvement of Greek businesses.
“Through the initiatives of the European Union (EDF, EDIP, etc.), this opportunity is directly linked to European priorities for strengthening technological and industrial autonomy, cooperation, and the resilience of European supply chains.
For IDE, this European environment creates significant possibilities for expanding its participation in international collaborations and programs for the development of advanced defense technologies and solutions,” Mr. Karagiannis explained.
“At the same time, an important supporter for the further development of the Greek defense industry is the commitment to substantial domestic industrial work within the framework of the armament programs of the Ministry of National Defence.
The linking of defense investments with the creation of domestic added value, the development of expertise, and the strengthening of the country's production and technological capabilities can constitute a key driver for the long-term strengthening of the Greek defense industry,” concluded IDE's Chief Commercial Officer.
