With 264 “yes” votes out of a total of 266 voting (two present), Parliament lifted the immunity of Dimitris Avramopoulos over the charges he faces in relation to the Qatargate case.
The number of positive votes proves that the acceptance of lifting his immunity was cross-party. By contrast, in the vote on lifting the immunity of Zoi Konstantopoulou, 175 MPs voted in favor, while the no votes were 90.
The request concerning the president of Course of Freedom αφορά legal remedies (by the president of the Association of Judges and Prosecutors and a police officer) for her stance in the Tempi trial.
After today’s development, the case of Mr. Avramopoulos now passes to a Court of Appeal prosecutor. Given that the former minister and former European Commissioner himself has requested to appear before the competent authorities in Brussels, it is considered certain that the prosecutor will give the green light for the trip to the Belgian capital.
It is noted that Mr. Avramopoulos did not attend the discussion and vote in Parliament, but sent a memorandum through which he accepted the lifting of his immunity.
