At the Innovation Route Awards of the Cannes Yachting Festival 2026, D-Marin, the luxury marina management operator, was honored, as its flagship initiative for the restoration of marine biodiversity, which uses Ecocean’s Biohut solution, was named Best CSR Initiative (Best Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative).
The distinction recognizes D-Marin’s innovative approach to integrating biodiversity restoration actions into the marina environment through the installation of Biohut units, according to the relevant announcement.
These units support juvenile fish populations and contribute to the creation of healthier coastal ecosystems. The program has also received a Silver Award at the Tourism Awards 2026 in the category “Initiatives for Conserving Land and Marine Biodiversity”.
The patented Biohut solution, developed by Ecocean, has been installed by D-Marin in four marinas, in an equal number of Mediterranean countries: Port Camille Rayon in France, Gouvia in Greece, Porto Mirabello in Italy and Dalmacija in Croatia.
A total of 171 units of Biohut have been installed at locations selected by Ecocean’s marine biologists and professional divers. Discreetly integrated into the marinas’ existing infrastructure, the units provide shelter and feeding grounds for juvenile fish and invertebrate organisms.
At Port Camille Rayon, three years of systematic monitoring recorded 14 fish species, 42 species of invertebrates and cryptobenthic organisms, as well as eight species of fishing interest.
Beyond ecological restoration, the initiative strengthens environmental education and local community participation. At Port Camille Rayon, around 50 school students from the area took part in activities for Biodiversity Day, becoming acquainted with marine species associated with Biohut and learning more about marine biodiversity and its protection.
D-Marin’s Head of Sustainability and H&S, Korina Kostakaki, stated:

Marinas can play an important role in nature restoration and, through initiatives such as Biohut, we demonstrate in practice how they can contribute to healthier marine ecosystems while also supporting a more sustainable future for the yachting sector”.
D-Marin’s implementation of the Biohut solution is part of the company’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes investments in renewable energy sources, protection of the marine environment, waste reduction, and responsible operation of marinas across its international network.
