Air Canada announced a significant expansion of its activity in the Greek market at an informational meeting with press representatives held today in Athens. Responding to unprecedented demand for transatlantic travel, Canada’s leading airline is expanding its schedule of direct flights connecting Athens with Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Montréal-Trudeau (YUL) airports, significantly reducing the usual winter suspension of its routes.
In a substantial move to support the initiatives of the Ministry of Tourism and Athens International Airport for year-round tourism, Air Canada will extend its direct flights through most of January 2027.
After a short winter break, direct flights will restart particularly early, on March 6, 2027. During the peak of the summer season, the schedule will be strengthened, reaching 11 weekly flights from Toronto and 10 from Montreal.
H.E. Sonya J. Thissen, Ambassador of Canada to the Hellenic Republic, stated:
“Congratulations to Air Canada on strengthening direct flights between Canada and Greece. More flights create more ties between the two countries, benefiting families, business travelers, students, and tourists, who are at the heart of Canada-Greece relations.”
“The Greek market is recording exceptional performance, with passenger traffic up 13.5% year-on-year and demand nearly doubling during the periods before and after the summer peak,” said Stefano Casaregola, Air Canada’s Regional Director for Greece, Italy, and Cyprus.
“By leveraging the leading wide-body aircraft in our fleet and extending the operating period of our routes, we offer Greek travelers, whether traveling for business or leisure, reliable and almost uninterrupted direct access to North America and connections to the Caribbean, while also strengthening the local tourism economy during the traditionally less popular months.”
Ioanna Papadopoulou, Communications & Marketing Director of Athens International Airport, stated:
“We are particularly pleased by Air Canada’s decision to extend the period of its direct flights to and from Athens. It is a development that constitutes a substantial vote of confidence in Athens and the prospects of the Greek market.
Canada and Greece are connected by strong ties, to which the Greek diaspora gives its own distinct momentum. The expansion of Air Canada’s schedule offers passengers even more opportunities for travel, personal and business contacts, while enjoying the company’s excellent air travel product, and significantly strengthens Athens’ connectivity with North America. We wish our airline partner safe and full flights and, on our part, we commit to continuing to actively support the company’s plans for the further strengthening of its presence and its connections to and from Athens.”
The airline also presented the three seating classes it offers, placing emphasis on the luxury of Air Canada Signature Class. With individual seats that convert into fully flat beds, direct aisle access, and chef-curated menus, this specific class is aimed at passengers seeking an upgraded and comfortable transatlantic travel experience, both for business travel and leisure.
Beyond Canada, the routes offer easy access to major U.S. business centers such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, providing connecting passengers with the ability to complete U.S. entry procedures already at Canadian air hubs.
