Piraeus and the Laboratory of Animal Production & Environmental Protection of the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki announce the launch of the 2nd cycle of the “EQUALL - Support Program for Sheep and Goat Farming”.
Piraeus has been implementing since March 2026 the new initiative to support Greek livestock farming, recognizing that the restoration of herds, which were destroyed in the previous period by natural disasters and animal diseases, constitutes a critical social, economic and environmental challenge for the agricultural sector.
The 2nd cycle of the Program aims at:
- Substantial, safe and sustainable restoration of the livestock capital of farms, when this is permitted by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food in accordance with the current health conditions of the country.
- Restarting animal farming in holdings that were affected by natural disasters and animal diseases.
- Long-term sustainability through cooperative actions by livestock farmers.
- Maintaining employment in rural and disadvantaged areas.
- Supporting families who lost their holdings.
- Ensuring livestock products and the sector’s processing businesses.
The “Support Program for Sheep and Goat Farming” is carried out within the framework of Piraeus’s EQUALL Corporate Responsibility, which -among other things- contributes to supporting the primary sector and rural communities with an emphasis on education, innovation and sustainable practices that enhance productivity and the development of the rural economy.
