An increase of 5.5% was recorded in 2025 in the total monthly expenditure of households in Greece, according to the household budget survey of the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
The increase is limited to 2.9% at constant 2024 prices, if the official inflation rate, which was 2.6% in 2025, is taken into account.
The average monthly household expenditure in 2025 amounted to 1,820 euros from 1,725 euros in 2024.
The largest part of expenditure was accounted for by food items, whose share declined to 20.4% from 20.7% in 2024.
This is followed by housing expenditure at 14.7%, transport at 13.6%, recreation - travel and catering expenditure at 11.8%, health at 7.6% and in 6th place clothing - footwear expenditure at 4.9%.
Consumption of clothing – footwear increased by 2.5% in 2025, slightly less than the increase in total consumption, resulting in its share of total consumption decreasing from 5.0% in 2024 to 4.9% in 2025, according to the Association of Knitting and Ready-Made Garment Enterprises of Greece.
The average annual expenditure per person in Greece on clothing – footwear in 2025 amounted to 443 euros from 432 euros in 2024.
Total annual consumption in Greece for clothing - footwear amounted in 2025 to 4.6 billion euros.
