The Hellenic Capital Market Commission and UNIC Athens, the academic and research base of the University of Nicosia in Greece, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at developing joint actions in the fields of education, research, professional training, and knowledge dissemination.
The cooperation covers issues concerning financial markets, capital market regulation, and financial innovation, linking academic knowledge with the supervisory experience of the Capital Market Commission, according to the relevant announcement.
The Memorandum was signed by the Chair of the Capital Market Commission Vasiliki Lazarakou and the Campus Director of UNIC Athens Alexandros Antonaras.
Present at the signing were the Vice Chair of the Capital Market Commission Michail Fekkas, the Commission’s Director of Studies Eleftheria Apostolidou, the professor and chair of the Department of Accounting, Economics and Finance of the University of Nicosia Petros Lois, as well as the professor and director of the School of Business Administration of UNIC Athens Nikolaos Antonakakis.
Areas of cooperation
The Memorandum provides, among other things:
- Exchange of know-how and best practices between the two sides.
- Development of educational programs and lifelong learning programs for students, professionals, and executives in the financial sector.
- Cooperation in research initiatives on the functioning, regulation, and supervision of financial markets.
- Co-organization of events on entrepreneurship, innovation, and financial education.
- Mentoring actions, exploration of internship opportunities, and participation of Commission executives as guest speakers in UNIC Athens courses.
The statements
The Chair of the Capital Market Commission Vasiliki Lazarakou stated: “Strengthening financial literacy is a basic prerequisite for the meaningful participation of citizens in financial markets and for cultivating a responsible investment culture. Our cooperation with UNIC Athens links supervisory experience with academic knowledge.
Through educational and research activities, as well as the exchange of know-how, we strengthen the knowledge and skills of students and professionals, promoting responsible dialogue on regulation, innovation, and investor protection.”
For his part, the Campus Director of UNIC Athens Alexandros Antonaras stated: “Cooperation with the Capital Market Commission strengthens the connection of academic education and research with the real developments and needs of the financial sector.
Through joint actions, we seek to offer students and professionals meaningful learning opportunities, develop new fields of research, and contribute to understanding the changes shaping modern financial markets. The Memorandum is a starting point for cooperation with a substantial educational, scientific, and social impact.”
The Memorandum enters into force from the date of the last signature and has a three-year duration, with the possibility of extension following written agreement of the two parties.
With its signing, the Capital Market Commission and UNIC Athens lay the foundations for stable cooperation in the fields of education, research, and financial literacy, with emphasis on students, professionals, and investors.
