The PASOK MEP Nikolas Farantouris submitted a written question to the Commission regarding the today's unacceptable Turkish threats concerning the implementation of the electrical interconnection of Greece Cyprus (Great Sea Interconnector - GSI), indeed on the very day of the anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Cyprus.
During today's press briefing by Turkey's Ministry of National Defence, the spokesperson of the Turkish ministry stated that Turkey will not allow any unauthorized cable/pipeline laying activity or scientific research, clearly referring to the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI), invoking the illegal and invalid agreements on the delimitation of maritime zones that Turkey signed with the pseudo-state and Libya.
“These agreements violate International Law, the sovereign rights of Greece and Cyprus, and the principles of good neighbourliness, at the same time that the Commission strongly supports the GSI project, as Commissioner Jørgensen also underlined in response to my written question, as a project of common interest financed with 657 million euros under the Connecting Europe Facility”, Nikolas Farantouris notes in his written question.
