An all-time record, with an increase of 5.3%, was recorded in the first eight months of 2026 in passenger traffic at the 24 airports managed by the CAA (Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupoli, Limnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Anchialos, Paros, Syros, Araxos, Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastelorizo, Kasos, Leros, Sitia), compared to 2025. Specifically, according to the statistical data, the total number of passengers (arrivals and departures of international and domestic passengers) for January-August 2026 amounted to 9,397,348 passengers, compared to 8,924,619 passengers in the corresponding period of 2025.
Positive statistical data for all CAA airports-14 times we exceeded 5,000 daily movements in the Athens FIR
August 2026 showed an increase in passenger traffic of 3.6%, overall and for the 24 CAA airports. Indicatively, Heraklion state airport, which also served the most travelers in August, recorded an increase in passenger traffic of 3.4% and handled 1,850,790, compared to 1,789,861 passengers in the same month last year. Also noteworthy is the picture of the course of air traffic in Greek airspace this year.
For the first time in the country's history, daily movements in the Athens FIR exceeded 5,000. The record was initially recorded on July 18, and was repeated a total of 14 times, (4 times during July and 10 times during August), reaching 5,183 movements in a single day.

Increase in passengers, overall and for the country's 39 airports (24 CAA, 14 FRAPORT GREECE, AIA)
An increase of 4.9%, is also reflected in passenger traffic, for the first eight months of 2026 across all the country's airports where commercial flights operate. This year, 60,451,201 were served, compared to 57,616,881 passengers in the corresponding period of 2025.
As regards the number of aircraft movements (arrivals and departures of domestic and international aircraft) for January-August 2026, across the country's 39 airports, whose air traffic control is exercised mainly by the CAA, an increase of 4.6% was recorded compared to the corresponding period of 2025. Specifically, a total of 452,983 flights were carried out, compared to 433,013 flights last year.
