The Hellenic Capital Market Commission published the “Investor Dictionary–Guide,” a comprehensive financial education publication, created with the aim of offering citizens a reliable, user-friendly, and scientifically documented tool for understanding investments and the functioning of capital markets.
The publication is part of the initiatives of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission to strengthen financial literacy, which constitutes an important pillar of its five-year strategic planning. Investor information and education operate complementarily to market supervision, contributing to the protection of the investing public, the strengthening of confidence, and the more effective and smoother functioning of the capital market.
The “Investor Dictionary–Guide” includes approximately 300 entries, covering a wide range of topics: from the basic principles of investments to financial products, the functioning of markets, the relationship between risk and return, diversification, investment strategies, as well as concepts related to investor protection.
Particular emphasis was placed on presenting complex financial concepts in a simple, clear, and understandable way, without losing their scientific accuracy. The aim is for the publication to serve as a practical point of reference not only for those already participating in the markets, but also for new investors, students and, more broadly, for every citizen who wishes to better understand the modern investment world.
The writing of the work was undertaken by the Professor of Finance at the University of Piraeus and President of the Institute of Financial Literacy, Nikolaos Philippas, with many years of scientific, teaching, and writing experience in the fields of investments, behavioral finance, and financial literacy.
The Chair of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission, Dr. Vasiliki Lazarakou, stated:
“The protection of the investing public is not exhausted by effective supervision and ensuring market transparency. It is substantially strengthened when investors themselves possess the knowledge and skills that allow them to understand their choices and assess risks. For this reason, financial literacy constitutes an important part of the strategy of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission.
The new Dictionary–Guide is a particularly valuable and useful tool in this direction. I would like to warmly thank Professor Nikolaos Philippas for the excellent scientific work, the quality, and the completeness with which he approached such an extensive and demanding project.”
For his part, the author of the Guide, Professor Nikolaos Philippas, stated:
“In today’s world, access to investments is easier than ever. However, this does not mean that understanding them is equally easy. Knowledge constitutes the investor’s first line of protection. Our goal was to transform complex financial concepts into understandable and practically useful knowledge, creating a tool that can accompany citizens in their investment decisions.
I would especially like to thank the Chair of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission, Dr. Vasiliki Lazarakou, for her trust and steadfast support, as well as the First Vice Chair Mr. Michail Fekkas and the Second Vice Chair Ms. Anastasia–Natasa Stamou. I also owe warm thanks to the Commission’s staff for their impeccable cooperation and their substantial contribution to the completion of the project.”
With this new publication, the Hellenic Capital Market Commission continues its actions to strengthen financial education and cultivate a more informed and responsible investment culture. Because the best protection for the investor begins with knowledge.
