The Sunlight Group, a member of the Olympia Group and a leading company in integrated and innovative energy storage technologies, announces its first commercial partnership in the Chinese shipbuilding industry through its subsidiary, Lehmann Marine.
The partnership is part of Sunlight Group’s strategy to contribute to the transition of international shipping to a cleaner and more energy-efficient operating model. At the same time, it confirms the ongoing demand for European expertise and advanced technological solutions in Asia’s highly competitive shipbuilding centers, where international safety certifications and high operational reliability are decisive criteria for the selection of technology partners.
Specifically, Lehmann Marine, a Sunlight subsidiary specializing in energy storage systems for shipping, successfully completed the delivery and commissioning of the innovative modular CUBE battery system on the state-of-the-art hybrid fast crew boat AESEN 116H. The installation of the system aims to achieve zero-emissions electric sailing within ports, as well as to reduce fuel consumption by up to 40%.
With certifications from the leading international classification societies (BV, DNV, LR, RINA), Lehmann Marine’s CUBE system stands out for its modular design, which allows the inspection or replacement of components directly while underway, without requiring costly dry-docking of the vessel.
“Lehmann Marine’s entry into the Chinese shipbuilding industry confirms Sunlight Group’s strategic choice to play a leading role in the electrification and decarbonization of global shipping. The growing demand for European expertise, innovation and service throughout the battery’s lifecycle in Asia as well, opens up significant prospects for a Greek industrial group with global reach, making this specific partnership a springboard for our further commercial growth in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Sunlight Group CEO Lambros Bisalas.
It is noted that the hybrid crew transfer vessel AESEN 116H (42 m long) was built in China by Cheoy Lee Shipyards for Singapore-based Aesen.
