Allwyn, in collaboration with McLaren Racing, brought the pinnacle of motorsport to Athens, with «Allwyn x McLaren Racing: Live in Athens» “taking over” the OAKA, on Saturday, October 3. This was the first of a global series of Allwyn events, which place the fan experience at the center.
Thousands of fans from all over Greece attended the event free of charge, which was open to the public, and watched two iconic McLaren single-seaters –the McLaren MCL60 and the legendary McLaren MP4/6 of Ayrton Senna– race on a specially designed track. Two-time World Champion Mika Häkkinen was behind the wheel of the MP4/6, while Arrow McLaren IndyCar driver Pato O’Ward represented McLaren Racing by driving the MCL60, giving fans in Greece, a country that does not host a Grand Prix, the opportunity to see two McLaren single-seaters up close for the first time.
Pavel Turek, Chief Officer Global Partnerships at Allwyn, stated: “Seeing thousands of motorsport fans coming to Athens is exactly what we hoped for when we introduced the idea of these events, in collaboration with McLaren Racing. At Allwyn, we constantly strive to offer more, whether it is more unforgettable moments or opportunities that bring more fans closer to the sports and entertainment they love.
Bringing speed, thrills and excitement to a country with such great passion for sport is the ideal way to launch our new international events platform. We look forward to offering even more similar experiences to fans around the world”.
The event also included a Fan Zone and a rich entertainment program. Visitors had the opportunity to experience it through a series of Allwyn activities, as well as to see on stage Mika Häkkinen, Pato O’Ward, Alex Wurz, Vasilis Panteleakis and Louise McEwen (McLaren Racing).
