On Tuesday noon, the President of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, visited the affected areas in the Lasithi Plateau.
In statements immediately afterwards, he noted among other things:
“We stand by the residents of the Municipality of Lasithi Plateau and the Municipality of Mylopotamos who have suffered a very great disaster after the recent extreme weather phenomena.
The state and the government must set aside bureaucracy and act quickly with a comprehensive plan:
Immediate recording of the damage, swift compensation for residents, livestock breeders and farmers, freezing of debts to the state and funding for the municipality and the region so that the affected infrastructure can be restored.
There must also be a plan to replace livestock in every case.
The state must consider that here, in the Lasithi Plateau, there are already enormous demographic problems. Very few young people have remained in their homeland to start families and continue the work of their fathers and grandfathers in this plain here.
We must support them, which is why the state must immediately make these interventions. The latest disaster must not further worsen the demographic shrinkage of the Municipality of the Plateau.
