More than 140 businesses, with over 3,500 job vacancies, are taking part in the 58th “Career Day” organised by the Public Employment Service (DYPA), which is being held today, Saturday, in Athens.
The event was attended by the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Niki Kerameos, DYPA Governor Gianna Chormova, the agency’s deputy governors and the Secretary-General for Labour Relations, Nikos Milapidis.
Ms Kerameos highlighted the role of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and DYPA in connecting people seeking work with businesses looking for staff.
“The mission of the Ministry of Labour and DYPA is to be useful to people, to help them find a job or a better job than the one they have. At the same time, our aim is to help businesses find workers,” the minister said.
On the unemployment trend, Ms Kerameos noted that the unemployment rate had fallen to 7.4%, “the second-lowest level ever recorded in Greece”.
As she stressed, there are people behind the figures. “Around 600,000 people have found work over the past seven years,” the minister said, attributing this progress to a broader effort by the Ministry of Labour, supported by businesses across the country and DYPA.
In closing, Ms Kerameos sent a message of support to those attending the event in search of work or looking to improve their career prospects, stressing the need to support every person in their efforts to find a job that meets their needs and expectations.
For her part, DYPA Governor Gianna Chormova highlighted the success of the “Career Days”, “an initiative embraced by businesses and the public”.
She said that, according to the latest available figures, the events had resulted in more than 13,000 hires, demonstrating their contribution to connecting the labour market with jobseekers.
