Passenger traffic at the 14 airports managed by Fraport Greece rose by 4.2% in September 2026, with the total number of passengers reaching 5.7 million, an increase of 229,000 passengers compared with the same month in 2025.
According to the company, the results were shaped by the performance of individual airports, increased traffic during the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) and growth in international passenger traffic.
In September 2026, the airports on Kefalonia (EFL) and Skiathos (JSI) each exceeded the passenger traffic they recorded in the whole of 2025, in less than nine months of 2026.
The impact of the TIF and international traffic
During the Thessaloniki International Fair, passenger traffic to and from the city increased compared with the same period a year earlier, thanks to a higher number of scheduled flights.
The additional capacity offered by airlines contributed to the growth in passenger traffic during the fair, which was up by 16,000 passengers, or 6.2%, compared with the same period in 2025.
International passenger traffic was also a significant factor in the overall increase. In September 2026, it rose by 196,000 passengers, or 4.2%, compared with the same month a year earlier.
The increase was driven mainly by the performance of the airports on Rhodes, Chania, Corfu, Thessaloniki, Kefalonia and Skiathos. By contrast, traffic fell at the airports on Santorini, by 3.4%, and Zakynthos, by 1.7%.
Strong 31.5% growth in traffic from Middle Eastern markets
Passenger traffic linked to Middle Eastern markets recorded particularly strong growth.
In September 2026, these markets generated 44,000 additional passengers, with traffic rising by 31.5% compared with the same month a year earlier.
The increase was accompanied by a significant expansion in airlines’ available capacity. Seats offered rose by 56,000, or 29.4%, while the load factor on flights to and from the Middle East stood at 75.3%, up from 74.1% in September 2025.
Average flight load factor falls
Despite the increase in the total number of passengers, the average load factor on flights at Fraport Greece airports fell.
In September 2026, the average load factor stood at 84.2%, compared with 85.4% in the same month a year earlier.
According to the company’s figures, most airports recorded lower load factors, with the exception of Rhodes, Zakynthos and Kos, where rates remained at September 2025 levels.
Domestic and international passenger traffic
Domestic passenger traffic totalled 873,000 passengers, up 4%, or 33,000 passengers, compared with September 2025. It accounted for 15% of total airport traffic.
International passenger traffic, meanwhile, reached 4.8 million passengers, an increase of 4.2%, or 196,000 passengers, and accounted for 85% of total traffic.
Finally, according to the company’s figures, since the start of the concession, Fraport Greece airports have handled a total of about 285 million passengers.
