A memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishing the basis for strategic cooperation in unmanned systems, interception systems and the defence industry has been signed by ALTUS-LSA, the Greek developer and manufacturer of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS, UAV/S), and S. CARFIL, a subsidiary of Romania’s state-owned defence company C.N. ROMARM.
The partnership combines ALTUS-LSA’s expertise in developing and integrating advanced unmanned platforms and interception systems with CARFIL’s know-how in ammunition production and its capabilities in testing and providing industrial support for defence systems.
Founded in 1922 and based in Brașov, Romania, S. CARFIL has a long history and considerable experience in the defence industry, specialising in the manufacture of weapons systems and ammunition.
As a subsidiary of C.N. ROMARM, it contributes to strengthening Romania’s industrial and technological capabilities in the defence sector.
Under the partnership, S. CARFIL will supply ammunition for ALTUS-LSA’s interception systems, while the two companies will explore opportunities to exchange expertise, laying the groundwork for the joint industrial development in Romania of ALTUS’s heavy-lift platforms and interception systems.
CARFIL’s facilities will also be used for testing, evaluating and demonstrating advanced unmanned solutions.
The two sides will also consider further opportunities for cooperation in research, training, technical support and the promotion of defence solutions in Greece, Romania and selected international markets.
Commenting on ALTUS-LSA’s partnership with S. CARFIL, ALTUS-LSA chief executive Zacharias Sarris said “cooperation with S. CARFIL is an important step towards building a strong Greek-Romanian partnership in defence. By combining ALTUS’s technological expertise with CARFIL’s industrial capabilities and experience, we aim to develop solutions that enhance the operational readiness and interoperability of the armed forces, while also creating prospects for a joint presence in allied and international markets”.
S. CARFIL general manager Mircea Petru Tantau said: “For S. CARFIL, this partnership is an opportunity to draw on our experience and industrial capabilities through joint programmes with high added value. We believe strategic partnerships between European companies can make a significant contribution to developing new technologies, strengthening the production base and creating competitive solutions for the markets of tomorrow”.
Through their partnership, ALTUS-LSA and S. CARFIL aim to build a long-term relationship with a meaningful industrial and operational footprint, creating new opportunities for the defence industries of Greece and Romania and a stronger joint presence in international markets, the two companies said.
