An official senior-level Indian delegation, led by Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary of Defence at India’s Ministry of Defence, visited Salamis Shipyards on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, as part of his official visit to Greece and his meetings with the political and military leadership of the Ministry of National Defence.
The visit, it was announced, came at a time when Greece and India are further strengthening their strategic and defence cooperation, with particular emphasis on maritime security, the defence industry, shipbuilding technology and the development of joint industrial initiatives.
During the visit, the Indian delegation was briefed in detail on the production, technical and industrial capabilities of Salamis Shipyards, their experience in complex shipbuilding and defence programmes, and the scope for developing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Particular mention was also made of Salamis Shipyards’ international activity and the strategic partnership they have already developed with India’s ACT Infraport.
The cooperation, which began with the signing of a Technical Cooperation Memorandum in January 2026, was further developed through a Technical Cooperation Agreement, signed on 5 June 2026 at Salamis Shipyards’ facilities.
The agreement concerns the development of a new, modern shipbuilding and ship repair facility (Greenfield Ship Building and Ship Repair Yard) on the Gulf of Kutch, on India’s west coast, in Gujarat.
Under the cooperation, Salamis Shipyards will contribute technical expertise, best practices, and modern shipyard production and management methods, with the aim of creating an internationally competitive facility for shipbuilding, repairs and conversions.
The partnership with ACT Infraport is a concrete example of the potential for cooperation between the Greek and Indian shipbuilding industries, combining Greek expertise in demanding shipbuilding projects with India’s growing capabilities and significant investment programme in the shipbuilding and maritime sectors.
“The visit by the senior Indian delegation is a particular honour for Salamis Shipyards and confirms the significant prospects taking shape for further developing Greek-Indian cooperation in the shipbuilding and defence sectors,” CEO Georgios Koros said in a statement.
He added: “Our cooperation with ACT Infraport in India is already a tangible example of transferring expertise and creating international industrial synergies.”
“We believe the two countries have complementary capabilities and strong foundations for developing new, mutually beneficial partnerships with high added value,” Mr Koros concluded.
The Indian delegation included, among others, Secretary of Defence Rajesh Kumar Singh, India’s ambassador to Greece Ravi Shankar and other senior members of the Indian mission.
The delegation was accompanied on the Greek side by officials from the Ministry of National Defence.
The visit concluded with an exchange of views on the prospects for further deepening cooperation in shipbuilding, technology and defence production, within the broader framework of the steadily developing strategic relationship between Greece and India.
