Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, SEV president Spyros Theodoropoulos and SEVT president Ioannis Giotis reaffirmed their commitment to continue the voluntary National Price Reduction Initiative through the end of the year, with the aim of securing the widest possible participation from businesses, at a meeting today at the Ministry of Development.
The meeting was also attended by Despoina Tsangari, governor of the Independent Authority for Market Control and Consumer Protection.
Mr Theodorikakos also spoke with Apostolos Petalas, president of the Association of Supermarkets of Greece, who reaffirmed the association’s participation in the National Price Reduction Initiative for the coming period.
At the meeting, it was agreed that the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) and the Federation of Hellenic Food Industries (SEVT) would consult their members to secure the widest possible participation and strengthen efforts to support Greek households.
During the initiative’s first two months (September-October), around 1,400 product codes were included, excluding school supplies, which will not be part of the new round.
Evidence of the initiative’s effectiveness is that, according to Eurostat, Greece recorded negative food inflation in July 2026 (-0.4%), with inflation close to zero in August (0.1%) and negative again in September (-0.2%).
In the coming days, the Independent Authority for Market Control and Consumer Protection will announce the detailed list of product codes included in the initiative and their price reductions.
Meanwhile, the Independent Authority for Market Control is in the final stages of preparing a festive package for the Christmas period. It will include food products for every holiday table, with price reductions of up to 25%, as the development minister announced in a recent television interview.
