From 1 November 2026, eligible farmers will be able to buy diesel free of excise duty directly at the pump using the myDiesel app from the AADE.
The process will be based on a digital voucher with a unique code and QR code, which will be used when purchasing fuel at a filling station.
As the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Margartis Schinas, and the head of the AADE, George Pitsilis, pointed out, the new system changes how the tax relief is granted. Instead of buying the fuel and waiting for the excise duty to be refunded later, farmers will benefit from the exemption when they refuel.
The total tax saving amounts to 50.84 cents per litre. Of this, 41 cents is the excise duty and 9.84 cents is the VAT charged on the excise duty.
On this basis, the saving on the purchase of 500 litres of agricultural diesel is €254.20, while for 1,000 litres it is €508.40, provided the quantities are eligible.
At the same time, the eligible fuel limit is raised to 200%, from 150% previously, allowing farmers to buy larger quantities free of tax. For example, for a crop with an expected consumption of 10 litres per stremma, the limit rises from 15 to 20 litres per stremma.
How myDiesel works in four steps
The new digital process involves issuing an electronic voucher, which will be used to carry out the necessary checks automatically and confirm the farmer’s eligibility and eligible fuel quantity.
1. Log in to the app and issue a voucher
Eligible farmers log in to the myDiesel app using their personal TAXISnet credentials and issue a digital voucher to buy diesel. The voucher has a unique code and QR code and is valid for five hours after it is issued.
2. Buy fuel at the filling station
The filling-station operator scans the QR code or enters the voucher’s unique number and issues the relevant receipt. The applicable exemption from excise duty and the corresponding VAT is applied at the time of the transaction.
3. Automatic transaction check
The app cross-checks the purchase details in real time, verifies the quantity of diesel the farmer is entitled to and automatically updates their remaining balance.
4. Automatic reimbursement of excise duty to filling stations
Tax is reimbursed to filling-station operators automatically, at least every Monday and Thursday, after sales receipts have been verified through the AADE’s information systems (myDATA or eSend). Filling-station operators do not need to take any further action to complete the process.
Where to find the app
myDiesel is available through the myAADE digital portal, under:
Applications → Popular Applications → myDiesel
Users can also access it through the free myDieselApp for mobile devices, available for iOS and Android.
Who is eligible and how quantities are calculated
Eligible users are those who submitted an IACS declaration in 2025 or 2026 and are registered in the Register of Farmers and Agricultural Holdings as professional farmers or newly registered professional farmers.
The system will initially use data from 2025 IACS declarations. The data will be updated once the processing of 2026 declarations is complete.
For the final two months of 2026, the calculation of the available diesel quantity will also take account of the quantities that eligible users have already purchased during the year under the previous excise-duty refund scheme.
What changes for farmers and filling-station operators
The main change for farmers concerns when they receive the tax relief. The exemption is applied when the fuel is purchased, rather than through a tax refund at a later date.
In addition, the digital voucher allows the quantities of diesel purchased by each eligible user, as well as their remaining balance, to be tracked immediately. Each farmer has a specific litre limit, determined on the basis of information about their agricultural holding.
For filling-station operators, the tax will be reimbursed automatically, with transaction receipts verified through the AADE’s information systems. The aim is to simplify procedures and reduce additional administrative requirements.
