The Panhellenic Federation of Food Service and Tourism Workers (POEET) issued a statement following the suspension of operations at all Pizza Fan outlets.
POEET says the outlets closed without it being made clear who had decided to shut them, and is demanding protection for the rights of workers at the chain’s 110 outlets.
More specifically:
“Hundreds of employees of the well-known chain, which was caught evading taxes, did not work yesterday through no fault of their own.
Their future is uncertain, and no one knows what will happen next! The law provides for special-purpose compensation when a business closes by administrative order, with the state providing insurance coverage; if it closes through the employer’s fault, the employer bears the full cost of both wages and insurance!
In this case, no one knows who closed 110 outlets across the country yesterday or what will happen to the workers! POEET is calling for clear answers and immediate support for the workers as they face this ordeal!
Pay and social security coverage for workers now!”
