Today, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of National Economy and Finance, visited the Sunlight Group facilities in Xanthi, where he had the opportunity to see the company’s production and technological operations first-hand. Sunlight is a member of Olympia Group.
According to the company’s announcement, the visit focused on the Group’s production and technological capabilities, investment in Research & Development, and international footprint. The Group exports 99% of its output to more than 115 countries.
The Xanthi industrial complex covers a total area of 90,000 sq m and has eight automated production lines and annual production capacity of 9 GWh. It also supports 1,200 jobs in the region.
The Minister of National Economy and Finance was welcomed at the Xanthi industrial complex by members of Sunlight Group’s management team: Spyros Gorgogiannis, R&D Director; Konstantinos Paspalas, General Manager of the Xanthi plant; and Angeliki Eleftheriou, Director of Corporate Affairs.
Representing the shareholder, Ioannis Karagiannis, Chairman of the Board of Olympia Group, was also present, underscoring the Group’s strategic commitment to continued investment in production and technology in Greece’s regions.
During the tour, the Minister was briefed on key areas of Sunlight’s production, research and technological development, including:
Lithium-ion innovation & R&D
The visit included presentations of the lithium battery assembly lines and accredited laboratories, where more than 200 specialised professionals work, helping to attract and harness scientific talent in Greece.
C&I systems (Commercial & Industrial)
The company presented its PowerESS HV range of industrial and commercial energy storage solutions. These batteries enable businesses to reduce their energy costs by storing electricity when it is cheap (energy arbitrage) and smoothing sharp peaks in consumption (load smoothing).
At the same time, they maximise the use of renewable energy and support the stability of the national grid by automatically managing consumption at facilities (behind-the-meter demand response). These technologies help industrial companies, commercial businesses and households guard against price fluctuations, securing lower costs and energy independence.
During the visit, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of National Economy and Finance, said:
“Sunlight is a Greek success story with an international footprint. A company that started in Xanthi and went on to become a leader in one of the world’s most competitive markets, investing in innovation, technology and an outward-looking approach.
This is the Greece we want to build. A Greece that creates high-value jobs, develops expertise and shows that the country’s regions can be at the forefront of the global economy.”
Ioannis Karagiannis, Chairman of the Board of Olympia Group, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Mr Pierrakakis to Sunlight’s plant in Xanthi, where Greek production meets the global market. Through sustained investment in Greece, expertise and trust in our people, Sunlight has become an international industrial force in energy storage.
With exports accounting for 99% of its production in Greece, a presence in 115 countries and ten factories in Europe and America, Sunlight shows that our country can be a base for production and innovation with global reach. For us at Olympia Group, this is the essence of investment: creating strong businesses that generate value in our country, compete internationally and strengthen the role of Greece and Europe in strategic sectors of the economy.”
The visit concluded with a discussion of the prospects for energy storage and the role of technology and innovation in the development of Greek industry.
