Lamda Development’s outgoing chief executive, Odysseas Athanasiou, spoke about the challenges ahead for Ellinikon, including traffic congestion, and stressed that Spiros Latsis has no intention of divesting from the project.
After 18 years at the helm of the group, Mr Athanasiou will leave his post at the end of the year, while the board has appointed Evi Kostaki as the Company’s new chief executive.
Speaking to journalists, Mr Athanasiou stressed that the Latsis family remains committed to the landmark project, which the next generation of the family has taken responsibility for carrying forward.
«Spiros Latsis loved Ellinikon very much, which is why he threw himself so forcefully into the effort to deliver the project. There is absolutely no intention of doing so; quite the opposite. I believe the same is true of Alex Latsis, whom the family has entrusted with carrying on the work at Ellinikon. He is very enthusiastic, wants to grow Lamda and is currently fully committed to the project, devoting time and energy to advancing it», Mr Athanasiou said.
Mr Athanasiou played a pivotal role in securing and advancing the landmark investment at Ellinikon, helping to overcome complex institutional, permitting, financing and construction challenges and to get under way Europe’s largest urban regeneration project.
He also strengthened LAMDA’s leading businesses in shopping centres and marinas, having taken over the company’s management at the height of the financial crisis. From 1 January 2027, Mr Athanasiou will take up an advisory role at Consolidated Lamda Holdings (CLH), focusing on relations with institutional bodies and government authorities.
