“The conviction of five of the six police officers accused over Vasilis Maggos’s death, in a ruling by the Mixed Jury Court of Karditsa, vindicates his family’s six-year struggle,” PASOK said in a statement.
It stressed that “the protection of human life and respect for fundamental rights are non-negotiable principles of the rule of law, and upholding them is an obligation incumbent on everyone without exception”.
The main opposition party underlined that “the Hellenic Police must carry out their duties professionally, with accountability and strict adherence to the law, with transparency, institutional responsibility and a practical commitment to safeguarding the rights of every person”.
