METLEN and Shell Global LNG Limited have signed a binding long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement, following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed in February 2026.
Under the agreement, Shell Global LNG Limited will supply METLEN with six LNG cargoes a year, equivalent to around 0.6 billion cubic metres a year (bcma), for five years, starting in 2027.
According to the relevant announcement, the LNG cargoes will be delivered to METLEN and will come primarily from Shell’s LNG portfolio in the US, destined for the Greek market or other European gas markets.
The agreement marks a further step in the development of cooperation between the two companies, combining Shell’s global LNG portfolio, shipping capabilities and specialist trading expertise with METLEN’s established presence in south-eastern Europe and growing role in European energy markets.
It also supports METLEN’s strategy to further consolidate its position through long-term supply agreements, diversifying its portfolio and increasing its commercial flexibility.
Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, METLEN’s Chief Executive Director International Energy Supply & Trading, said: “The agreement with Shell turns our shared ambition into a long-term supply partnership.
Combining Shell’s global LNG capabilities with METLEN’s established regional presence strengthens our supply portfolio and gives us greater flexibility to serve Greece and other European markets. This is a further step in our strategy to diversify energy supply sources and strengthen METLEN’s role in Europe’s evolving energy landscape”.
Tom Summers, Executive Vice President for Shell LNG Marketing and Trading, said: “LNG plays a crucial role in meeting the energy needs of consumers and businesses in Greece and other European countries, with flexibility and reliability.
We are very pleased to sign this agreement with METLEN, helping to supply its customers across the wider region, and look forward to exploring opportunities to develop our cooperation further in the future”.
The agreement further strengthens METLEN’s role in regional and European gas markets, while helping to establish Greece as a major energy hub for the wider region.
