Together for Children is carrying out initiatives to meet the basic needs of children and families facing social and economic hardship, with the kind support of Together for Children and Fraport Greece.
The initiatives include providing 5,782 meals to children and giving financial support to vulnerable families in 13 areas where the company operates.
5,782 meals for children at a child protection organisation in Thessaloniki
With support from Fraport Greece, Together for Children provided 5,782 meals through its “I Give Because I Care” programme to a child protection organisation in Thessaloniki, which provides accommodation for 525 children.
The children supported are aged from two months to 12 years and come from families facing socioeconomic hardship, including low-income households, single-parent and large families, and families dealing with serious health problems.
Financial support for vulnerable families in 13 areas of Greece
At the same time, Together for Children carried out initiatives through its Support for Vulnerable Families programme in areas where Fraport Greece operates, at 13 of Greece’s 14 regional airports.
The programme operates in Zakynthos, Mykonos, Lesvos, Lixouri, Aktion – Vonitsa, Corfu, Samos, Kos, Rhodes, Santorini, Skiathos, Kavala and Chania.
A total of 13 financially vulnerable families, comprising 30 people — 13 adults and 17 children — are supported through the programme.
Support is provided through vouchers for food and essential goods, helping to meet basic living needs and ease financial pressure for six months.
Families taking part in the programme face financial difficulties as well as complex social, psychological and health challenges that significantly affect their quality of life.
Families were selected by the local social services responsible, on the basis of social and economic criteria, with priority given to those facing greater hardship and in need of immediate support.
About Together for Children’s Support for Vulnerable Families programme
The “Support for Vulnerable Families” programme is open to families with children under 18 who meet income and social criteria and are referred to Together for Children by the social services of municipalities and other organisations and institutions.
Together for Children’s social services prioritise requests for support and select families for the programme using merit-based criteria and transparent procedures.
The most vulnerable families are enrolled in the programme for six months, regardless of nationality, religion or political beliefs.
Each family’s file is protected under legislation governing the confidentiality of sensitive personal data.
About the “I Give Because I Care” programme
The “I Give Because I Care” programme was established in 2012 to support child protection organisations.
More than 200 organisations across Greece are part of the programme’s network, which supports around 18,000 children each year by providing food, essential goods, school supplies, toys, clothing, footwear and furniture.
The programme aims to reduce socioeconomic inequalities and create better living conditions for children and their families, while also helping to improve the facilities that support them.
Goods are collected at Together for Children’s premises throughout the year, in partnership with schools at all levels, private-sector companies, individuals and the Food Bank.
They are then assessed, sorted and distributed to partner organisations across Greece according to their needs.
