Consumers in seven more cities in Western Greece and Epirus will gain access to natural gas gradually during 2026 and by March 2027, according to the schedule of the Hellenic Gas Distribution Company Enaon EDA.
These are the cities of Patras, Agrinio, Pyrgos, Ioannina, Preveza, Igoumenitsa and Arta, where works for the construction of the networks are in full progress and the supply of consumers is gradually beginning, while at the same time work continues for the completion of the networks.
Specifically:
Patras: Construction of the medium-pressure network has been completed at approximately 98%, while the low-pressure network, both within and around the Patras Business Park (E.P.P., VI.PE.) and within the urban fabric, has been completed at approximately 27%. Key loops have already been constructed in areas such as Zarouchleika and Tarampoura, with the projects gradually expanding toward the central sector of the city around Queen Olga Square and Skagiopouleio. Completion of the project is estimated by the end of 2027.
The supply of the network that will serve the city of Patras will be carried out through the 2nd onshore small-scale Liquefied Natural Gas ( LNG) Station installed at the Patras Business Park. The 1st LNG station has already been put into operation and has been supplying two industries within the E.P.P. since April 2025, while the 2nd LNG station, which will supply the city of Patras, has been structurally completed and its licensing is expected in the coming period. In addition, ten contracts have already been signed for new industrial consumers.
Agrinio - Pyrgos: Construction of the network is progressing steadily, with the network in Pyrgos completed at approximately 55% and in Agrinio at approximately 26%. At the same time, the installation of LNG stations (one in each city) is expected to be completed for Pyrgos within 2026 and for Agrinio in the 1st quarter of 2027, allowing the gradual activation of the network. The goal is the full completion of the projects within the first half of 2027.
Ioannina: Construction of the medium-pressure network is nearing completion, the LNG station has been technically completed, while the final stage of licensing follows. At the same time, construction works for the development of the low-pressure network are underway at an intensive pace. Works are progressing in the Ampelokipoi area and are gradually expanding to additional areas of the city. A total of 36 km of network have been constructed. Two contracts have already been signed for industrial consumers, reflecting the interest in the city's new energy infrastructure.
Preveza - Arta - Igoumenitsa: Construction works on the low-pressure network are in full progress. In the Preveza area, 6.5 km of low-pressure network have been constructed and works are progressing on Syrrakou Street. Similarly, in Arta works are being carried out on Kommenou Street and 3 km of low-pressure network have been completed. Also, in Igoumenitsa, works have officially started from the Graikochori area, marking the implementation of an important energy upgrade project for the city.
It is noted that the above 7 areas will be supplied through small-scale Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) infrastructure projects that ensure the provision of energy to areas that are remote from the national natural gas transmission system. Florina, Kastoria and the Patras Industrial Area are the first three areas in Greece already supplied through small-scale LNG infrastructure.
It is noted that last week the Strategic Plan of parent company Italgas for the period 2026-2032 was announced, which for Greece provides for investments amounting to 1 billion euros.
These include projects to expand the network by 2,700 kilometers, which will increase the number of served consumers from approximately 650,000 in 2025 to over 1 million by 2032.
