Just before the expiration of the relevant deadline is the process of registering all the country's elevators in the digital Elevator Registration Registry. The last day is June 30, 2006 and no further extension is expected to be granted.
With the registration, the Ministry of Development, through the General Secretariat of Industry, seeks for the first time to form a complete and reliable picture of the elevators installed in the country, with the aim of shaping the best policies for targeted supervision, risk prevention, and the continuous strengthening of their safe operation.
The process is carried out electronically and free of charge, through the platform elevator.mindev.gov.gr, using Taxisnet credentials, and concerns all elevators, regardless of the building's use, certification status, or any previous registration in another registry.
After the deadline expires, the registration number will constitute a basic element of the elevator's technical identification and must be indicated on maintenance documents.
Below are ten useful questions and answers about what owners, managers, and industry professionals need to know regarding elevator registration.
Useful questions - answers about elevator registration
1. Which elevators does the registration concern?
The registration concerns all elevators, without exception. It concerns elevators in:
- apartment buildings,
- single-family houses,
- offices,
- hotels,
- supermarkets,
- shopping centers,
- professional facilities,
- mixed uses, that is, buildings that have both residences and professional spaces.
The registration must be completed even if the elevator has already been certified or was declared in the past in another registry.
2. By when must the registration be completed?
The deadline expires definitively on June 30, 2026. After this date, the registration will not be considered timely.
3. Will another extension be given?
No. The legislation provided for the possibility of an extension only once and that has already been granted. Therefore, there is no legal margin for a new extension. Those who have not completed the registration must do so immediately.
4. Where is the registration done and how much does it cost?
The registration is done electronically, on the platform: elevator.mindev.gov.gr
The process is done using Taxisnet credentials, is simple, takes a few minutes, and is completely free of charge. There is no fee or cost for the registration.
5. Is temporary saving sufficient?
No. Temporary saving does not constitute final registration. For the elevator to be considered registered, a final submission must have been made within the platform. Today there are approximately 7,500 temporarily saved declarations that have not been finalized. If they are not completed by June 30, they risk being considered overdue. For this reason, those who have started the process must log back into the platform and confirm that the registration has been definitively completed.
The safest way for the registrant to make sure that the registration was successfully completed is for the relevant PDF file containing the unique identification number (UUID) of the registration to have been issued and opened. If this specific PDF has not been issued or there is any doubt, it is recommended that the declaration be checked immediately on the platform before the deadline expires.
6. Who can complete the registration?
The registration can be completed by the owner, the manager, or the legal representative of the building. If someone has difficulty, they can contact the elevator's maintainer or installer. Industry professionals can provide substantial help so that the registration is completed correctly and on time.
7. What will happen if the elevator is not registered by June 30?
After July 1, elevators that have not been registered will be able to be registered only after payment of the prescribed fine, through a process that will be provided through the platform. The fines for owners, managers, or legal representatives are per elevator:
- 1,000 euros for buildings used as residences,
- 2,500 euros for buildings with professional or mixed use,
- 5,000 euros for buildings accessible to the general public.
8. Will an elevator that has not been registered be able to be maintained?
Not legally. After the deadline expires, the registration number will constitute a basic element of the elevator's technical identification. This means that maintainers and installers must request from the person responsible for the building the elevator's registration number for the elevator they maintain. If an elevator has not been registered, it will not be able to be legally maintained without its prior regularization and the payment of the relevant fine.
9. How will maintainers and installers be checked?
The check will be simple and cross-referenced. After July 1, maintainers and installers must indicate on maintenance documents the elevator's legal registration number.
The details of the documents will be able to be cross-checked with the details of the Registration Registry. If it is found that an elevator that had not been registered was maintained, then the corresponding sanctions will also be imposed on the maintainer or installer.
10. What should I do today?
If you are an owner or manager, go immediately to the platform elevator.mindev.gov.gr and complete the registration. If you have only done a temporary save, proceed to final submission. If you are having difficulty, contact your elevator's maintainer or installer.
