The release of resources amounting to 118 million euros to Greece is a matter of days, while by 2030 resources have been foreseen from SAFE for our country corresponding to 31.6% of its annual expenditure for defense and armament purposes, as revealed by the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas, from the podium of the Athens Defence Conference 2026, which is organized by the Delphi Economic Forum, in cooperation with the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP).
The Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism pointed out that the SAFE program, with a budget of 150 billion euros, gives member states the possibility to finance joint defense prospects on competitive terms and over a long duration.
As he explained, for Greece this means targeted investments in satellite surveillance, secure communications and anti-drone systems, through European partnerships.
According to him, 1/3 of the cost of our country's defense spending until 2030 will now pass through SAFE.
Consequently, Mr. Tzitzikostas gave credit to the Greek government and the prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the negotiations, since as he said this is a very important step for the shielding of Greece.
