“We expect to see the reduced oil prices reflected in prices at the pump”, stressed Kyriakos Mitsotakis, speaking at the cabinet meeting being held at the Maximos Mansion.
The state's supervisory mechanisms, as he said, “will ensure that the course of gasoline and diesel follows crude oil prices. Yesterday there was a common understanding between the government and the market for prices to remain stable over the next two months with the prospect of further reductions from September. The State will monitor, ready to intervene. High prices were and are our main priority”.
The prime minister pointed out to his ministers that “we have important milestones for the next six months: the completion of the railway network from the natural disasters and the promotion of the Thessaloniki Flyover, the absorption of the Urban Planning Offices by the Cadastre, the completion of the three special Spatial Planning Frameworks, the universal implementation of the Digital Case File, the maturation of the dialogue on the National Baccalaureate”.
Regarding the Recovery Fund, Mr. Mitsotakis stated that “so far more than 24 billion [has gone] into the national economy. A large part was utilized in a development wave in favor of society and to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises. The bet until the final disbursement in September is to present a plan that will relieve Greeks, while also maintaining the Fund’s development momentum even after its end”.
Regarding the interventions in the primary sector, the prime minister underlined the “payments of 617.5 million to 530,000 farmers, 100 million euros above the initial target, proof that the recovery of OPEKEPE through AADE succeeded and is delivering. And it allowed additional support for livestock breeders and grain and cotton producers.
We have the ability to reallocate resources from those who are not entitled to them to honest farmers. Since the beginning of the year, more than one billion euros have been allocated and a new round of payments will follow in the autumn.
Those who acted illegally are accountable to Justice on the initiative of this government. 2,900 cases are being investigated and 1,151 prosecutions were brought. 5 criminal organizations were dismantled with the return of the subsidies. We still have a lot to do, but an issue that was politically inflated is acquiring its true dimensions as a long-standing and cross-party disease of the deep state that was resolved on the move”.
The problems, Mr. Mitsotakis told his ministers, “do not go on vacation and we must continue the confrontation with them. At a time when our opponents are occupied with the contradictions of their parties, our duty is to turn to society. And to respond to the arrogant, flimsy, unfounded announcements of our opponents, such as the one about the banks from those who closed the banks and burdened taxpayers with billions. Today they come and propose recipes that would repeat the same mistakes. They learned nothing, they forgot nothing”.
