From today, Tuesday 30 June 2026, until Friday 31 July 2026, beneficiaries of the housing allowance for the academic year 2025-26 may submit an electronic application for its granting.
As the Ministry of Education informed, those interested should visit the special housing allowance application, in order to submit their application electronically. “At a time when housing costs constitute a significant challenge for many Greek families, we stand practically by our students, reducing the financial burdens that accompany studies and creating equal educational opportunities for all”, stated the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Sofia Zacharaki.
The minister described student welfare as a “steady priority” of the government and stressed that the housing allowance is not simply financial support, but “a substantial contribution to the family budget and an investment in the ability of every young person to study with dignity, wherever their university may be”.
She also noted that by 2030, the Ministry of Education aims to increase coverage of students’ housing needs to almost double, from 7% to 15%. “Supporting the new generation is a choice of responsibility and an investment in Greece’s future”, Ms. Zacharaki concluded.
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, responsible for Higher Education, Nikos Papaioannou, referred to the increase in the program’s funding in recent years, combined with the strengthening of the allowance itself and the initiatives for the development of new student residences, noting that this proves that the government “invests systematically” in public higher education and “substantially supports” those who study away from their place of residence.
More information concerning the granting of the housing allowance for the academic year 2025-2026 can be obtained by interested parties from the relevant circular, which is posted on the website of the Ministry of Education.
