Today, the Ministry of National Economy and Finance and the Independent Authority for Public Revenue are completing the first and largest payment of the extraordinary one-off financial support to families with children, amounting to 150 euros for each dependent child.
The support is being received by 947,609 beneficiaries for 1,525,188 dependent children, while the total amount stands at 219,737,550 euros.
It is noted that for families who had a child in 2025 or 2026, a special supplementary payment is provided. Specifically, according to the relevant decision, for children born from 1 January 2025 up to and including 31 July 2026, the financial support will be paid by 31 August 2026. For the determination of the beneficiaries, the timely income tax returns submitted during the current year will be taken into account, as well as the relevant changes that have been recorded in the Tax Registry.
Also, for children who do not have a Tax Identification Number (TIN) and were born during 2026, a request for the issuance of a TIN must be submitted by 10 August 2026, in order for the payment of the support to be made possible.
During the process, an additional 33,351 TINs were identified for which either no account number in IBAN format has been notified to the IAPR or the declared IBAN is incorrect. In these cases, the IAPR will send an electronic message to the beneficiaries so that they can declare or correct the relevant IBAN and receive the support.
It is recalled that the payment is made as follows:
- In the case of submission of a joint tax return by married persons or parties to a civil partnership, the support is paid in full to the spouse or the party to the civil partnership who has been declared as liable in the cleared income tax return.
- In the case of submission of separate tax returns by the parents, the support concerning the common dependent children is paid half to each parent. For non-common dependent children, the support is paid half to each parent, provided that both declare them as dependents; otherwise, it is paid in full to the parent who declares them as dependents.
Beneficiaries of the support are parents of dependent children who are tax residents of Greece and have a total family income—taxable or exempt, actual or imputed—of up to 40,000 euros for married persons or parties to a civil partnership, increased by 5,000 euros for each additional dependent child beyond the first, and up to 39,000 euros for single-parent families with dependent children, also increased by 5,000 euros for each additional dependent child beyond the first.
