The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) released the seasonally adjusted estimates of employment and unemployment for May 2026.
In particular, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in May 2026 amounted to 8.1% compared with the upwardly revised 8.7% in May 2025, and the downwardly revised 9.1% in April 2026.
Those employed amounted to 4,353,357 people, recording an increase of 20,712 people compared with May 2025 (0.5%) and an increase of 18,654 people compared with April 2026 (0.4%).
The unemployed amounted to 383,740 people, recording a decrease of 29,643 people compared with May 2025 (-7.2%) and a decrease of 48,028 people compared with April 2026 (-11.1%).
ELSTAT notes that persons under 75 years of age who are not included in the labor force, or “persons outside the labor force”, that is, persons who neither work nor seek employment, amounted to 2,979,634, recording a decrease of 24,552 people compared with May 2025 (-0.8%) and an increase of 25,121 people compared with April 2026 (0.9%).
