A meeting with the president of PASOK - Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, was held today, Thursday, by the Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias at the Ministry of National Defence (YPETHA), following a request by the leader of the official opposition.
After the private meeting, a detailed briefing followed in the “Kapodistrias” hall of the YPETHA on issues of national defence and on the operational structure of the Armed Forces.
The reference to “Agenda 2030”
During the reception of Mr. Androulakis, Mr. Dendias underlined the importance of informing the political parties about defence issues and the reforms currently under way.
“It is extremely important for us that there be comprehensive briefing of the parties, and especially of the official opposition, on the effort to modernize and reform the Armed Forces, what we call ‘Agenda 2030’”, he said characteristically.
At the same time, he stressed that issues of national defence are a national matter and do not constitute the “property” of either a government or a political party.
Briefing by the military leadership
The minister also noted that the briefing on operational issues was carried out by the natural leadership of the Armed Forces, headed by the Chief of the HNDGS, General Dimitrios Houpis.
Also participating in the meeting and the briefing were the Secretary General of the YPETHA Antonios Oikonomou, the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Dimitrios – Eleftherios Kataras HN, the Chief of the Hellenic Air Force General Staff, Air Marshal (I) Dimosthenis Grigoriadis, the Deputy Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Andreas Koronakis, as representative of the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, as well as the Director General of GDPEADS, Ambassador ret. Michail Spinellis and the Director of the D Branch of the HNDGS, Major General Ioannis Korres.
The president of PASOK was accompanied by the person in charge of the National Defence Sector Michalis Katrinis, the person in charge of the Foreign Affairs Sector Dimitris Mantzos and MEP Giannis Maniatis.
