An attack against parties of the Left was launched by the vice president of the government Kostis Hatzidakis, commenting on the reactions that followed the murderous attack in Thessaloniki.
Speaking to SKAI, Mr. Hatzidakis described as “provocative” the statements of those who spoke of provocation or exploitation of the incident, stressing that in a European country the only reaction should be the condemnation of violence and the punishment of the guilty.
“We reached the point where some were talking about provocation. We heard that too. In a normal European country, if such a criminal attack happened, wherever it came from, hooligans, far-rightists, or far-leftists, the reaction would be: shame, disgrace, condemnation, the guilty must be punished. There would be no further discussion. Here, when it is from hooligans or far-rightists, quite rightly we condemn it. When it is from far-leftists, we experience these phenomena,” he said characteristically.
What he said about a possible Samaras party
Referring to the scenarios of the creation of a new political party by former prime minister Antonis Samaras, the vice president of the government appeared cautious as to its appeal.
“Modern political history and the course of New Democracy have shown that whoever forms a party does not have great appeal. The people of the faction, regardless of leaders, remain with the faction,” he noted.
The three reasons why ND will win again
Kostis Hatzidakis pointed out 3 main reasons citizens have to support New Democracy again in the next elections.
“First, because we did what we said we would do. A study by KEFiM was recently published showing that 91% of our commitments have been fulfilled or are in the process of being fulfilled.
Second, because in the dilemma Mitsotakis or Tsipras or Androulakis or Konstantopoulou or Velopoulos or Latinopoulou, I believe that Mitsotakis has an advantage. He is more reliable, more capable, with prestige abroad, with knowledge of the issues, with effectiveness.
And the third is because when our own 2030 agenda is presented - I am responsible for ND’s program - people will weigh the programs. The others will promise their mother and their father. That is their right. We will promise 5-10 specific things, based on what is happening in countries that have succeeded more than us.
We will chart a prospect that will be characterized by realistic hope. And I think that for all these reasons, it will again emerge that New Democracy will be the party on which society can rest its hopes”.
In closing, the vice president of the government argued that the latest polls show a strengthening of New Democracy and reminded that even before the 2023 elections the party’s final percentage was not taken for granted.
“As the elections approach, the dilemmas are posed and the undecided usually return to the party they come from”, he said.
