Skaramangas Shipyards are entering the upgrade of the MEKO-type frigates of the Hellenic Navy, following the signing of a contract with the Ministry of National Defence for the execution of specialized shipbuilding and electromechanical works.
The project, with high technical requirements, concerns critical interventions for the installation and safe integration of new electronic systems, with the aim of strengthening the operational capability of the Fleet.
The MEKO-type frigates of the Hellenic Navy had been built at the facilities of Skaramangas Shipyards.
The upgrade works
The contract includes the removal of the existing electronic devices, the configuration of the new installation positions for the sensors, the installation of new interconnection cabling of the systems with the control consoles, as well as the full upgrade and reconfiguration of the spaces of the Combat Management Center (Combat Information Center - CIC) and the spaces of the ships’ special staff.
All works will be carried out in accordance with the strictest military standards and the prescribed technical specifications, ensuring the safe integration of the new electronic systems and their full operational utilization.
Particular importance is attached to the detailed coordination of the shipbuilding work with the factory delivery schedule of the electronic systems. Through this planning, the aim is to significantly reduce the time the frigates remain at the Shipyards’ facilities, while maintaining the availability of the Hellenic Navy’s units at high levels.

The assignment of the project confirms the State’s confidence in the capabilities of Skaramangas Shipyards and highlights their role in supporting critical national defence programs.
