Performance Technologies, in collaboration with HPE, worked with Athens International Airport (AIA) to modernize the FBCC operational network, which supports key airport operations, as well as critical Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems, ensuring the continuous and uninterrupted operation of a complex and demanding environment.
As part of AIA's digital infrastructure modernization strategy, the existing network was upgraded through replacement, with the aim of enhancing scalability, availability, and operational efficiency, in alignment with growing business requirements, without any disruption to the operation of the airport.
Performance Technologies implemented a modern architecture based on HPE Networking and Software Defined Networking (SDN) technologies, tailored to the requirements of a mission critical environment.
The approach included the modernization of the campus network and the data center. On the campus, the entire equipment set (access, aggregation and core) was replaced, a high-capacity backbone was implemented, and a transition was made to a VXLAN/EVPN architecture, while security was simultaneously enhanced in accordance with international standards. In the data center, a Spine Leaf architecture was implemented, with two Active/Active infrastructures interconnected through redundant 100G connections, ensuring high availability and resilience.
The use of SDN enabled the automation and simplification of management through a central orchestrator, while 24x7 monitoring and support from Performance Technologies' NOC ensures a high level of services with SLA based response and restoration.
The result is a modern, secure and fully scalable network, which reliably supports the airport's mission critical operations, significantly reduces operational complexity and creates a strong foundation for AIA's digital transformation and future development, the announcement concludes.
