With the focus on changes to the MSCI indices and massive shifts in passive portfolios, trading on the Athens Stock Exchange saw explosive turnover of €1.015 billion and intense activity among the most heavily weighted blue-chip stocks.
The spotlight was on PPC, which saw massive trading volume of €241.1 million. The stock ultimately closed down 1.91% at €21.56, despite very strong order flow in the auctions.
It was immediately followed by GEK TERNA, which was added to the MSCI Standard Greece index and saw trading volume of €193.1 million. The stock closed up 1.52% at €42.76.
Among banks, Piraeus Bank recorded a turnover of €86.9 million and rose 2.19% to €9.15, while Eurobank gained 5.03% to €3.991 with a turnover of €77.9 million. National Bank of Greece rose 0.71% to €14.825 with a turnover of €71.9 million, while Alpha Bank closed up 3.44% at €3.91 with trading volume exceeding €50.5 million.
OTE also saw strong activity , trading 3.17 million shares with a turnover of €57.7 million, closing marginally lower by 0.66% at €18.19.
Among the other blue chips with the highest trading value, Hellenic Petroleum (ELPE) rose 1.08% to €10.30 with a turnover of €4.18 million, while Motor Oil fell 0.11% to €36.98 with a trading value of €8.45 million.
Rounding out the top ten were Cenergy, which closed down 2.80% at €24.98 with a trading value of €62.5 million, and Metlen, which rose 2.25% to €41.86 with a trading value of €11.7 million.
