The Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies (EAEE) continues its quarterly survey of insurance companies, to record the number of home insurance policies, with the aim of monitoring trends and understanding the impact of measures to fill the protection gap through private home insurance.
This Hellenic Association of Insurance Companies (EAEE) survey covers policies in force as of December 31, 2025, and collected data on 1,355,133 policies (an increase of 8.7% compared to insurance companies’ policies as of December 31, 2024).
Consequently, it appears that the percentage of insurance coverage relative to the total number of insurance policies in the country amounts to 20.5% (with 25 insurance companies participating in the survey, covering 98.5% of property insurance production).
The survey revealed that the number of insured residences with building coverage reached 1,184,046 (an increase of 11.1% compared to the survey of December 31, 2024). Consequently, the country’s insurance coverage rate for policies with building coverage stands at 17.9%.
It is worth noting that the number of homes insured against weather events and earthquakes (which qualify for the ENFIA tax deduction) has increased by 27.8% compared to the survey conducted on December 31, 2024. This resulted in their share of all building insurance policies rising to 71.5% from 62.2% as of December 31, 2024.
It is therefore evident that property insurance policies are gradually being expanded to include all the coverage for catastrophic events provided for by law.
