Clearly corrective, the session held today on the Greek Stock Exchange, with the main ASE indices moving permanently in negative territory and the banking index leading the downward move, completing a second consecutive corrective session.
In fact, today’s -1.88% of the DTR is the biggest drop of the last two months, with the immediately larger one having been recorded on 23/7 (-2.49%).
For active traders who continue to monitor developments on the ASE “day by day” and adjust their moves according to the daily trend, perhaps the assessment of a veteran analyst deserves greater attention, according to whom “some Foreign Funds, after Friday’s rebalancing, 18/9, found themselves with overweight banking positions. If they proceed with a gradual reduction of positions, it cannot be ruled out that the General Index will ‘see again’ numbers with 24.. in front, especially if the international climate worsens and the rise in government bond yields continues”.
Besides the second day of correction for the heavyweight banking stocks, except OPTIMA which completed yesterday’s trading at new all-time highs, it could be argued that the board of non-banking blue chips gave an image of “worrying alertness”, as the few selective placements continued, as in the rest of the market, depending on the results announced by listed companies.
On the other hand, as we approach the end of the publication period of half-year financial results, that is, at the end of September, the pace will intensify mainly from mid- and small-cap companies.
According to the scheduled announcements of first-half results, today ADMIE, KRI, LANAK, ASKO, KOUAL, ELTON, publish, on Thursday EYDAP, BELA, DIMAND and AKTR, with EYDAP and BELA publishing their figures before the start of the session (the analysts’ briefing on EYDAP’s financial results for the first half of 2026 will take place, via teleconference, on Thursday, 24 September 2026 at 15.00), while the week concludes on Friday with the announcements of TRASTOR, VIOKA, INLIF, EYATH, OLTH, FLEXO, ASTAK and EVROF.
Among the day’s negative indications, the fact that at the intraday lows, only the MTLN stock was holding on with a positive sign, while declining stocks were more than double the advancing ones, a ratio that improved somewhat later on.
Buyers returned to the Refinery stocks (ELPE +2.61%, MOH +2.95%).
Meanwhile, scenarios continue regarding possible new deals in the IT sector, in the wake of the recent Hg – Entersoftone deal, with the valuation of the Greek company standing a little above 1 billion euros. According to analysts, “beyond the size of the transaction, the deal dynamically brings domestic IT back onto the radar of major private equity funds, with whatever that may entail”.
With the above speculation as a “driving force”, the PROF stock (+2.47%) closed at new all-time highs.
Also positive is the fact that the market is showing satisfactory reflexes and “rewarding” the stocks of companies that positively surprise with the first-half results they announce, with analysts pointing out that “a good half-year is not enough, but visibility is also needed as to whether 2026 profitability can be maintained or revised higher”.
With mixed signs the major European markets, as yields in the bond market appear to be returning to a “northern” course, indeed with a significant rise, and Brent higher than $101/barrel.
More specifically, the yield on the US 2-year note is climbing to 4.87%, 5.05% for the 10-year. The yield on the 30-year at 5.36%. The yield on the Greek 10-year note at 4.302%.
Staying with government securities, an auction of Treasury bills with a duration of 26 weeks, amounting to 400 million euros, was conducted today Wednesday. The yield was set at 2.58%, versus 2.34% in the auction of the corresponding security in August. Total bids of 1.021 billion euros were submitted, oversubscribing the requested amount by 2.55 times.
The attention of the markets is also on the Summit between the American President, Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
According to Reuters, “the key issue of the meeting is whether the two Leaders will signal an extension of the trade truce, which prevented a serious blow to the Global Economy. Differences in Trade, Technology and Security, however, remain”.
The General Index moved permanently in negative territory and was down as far as 2636.84 points (-1.3%). At 17.00 it stood at 2648.06 (-0.88%) and completed trading at 2651.07 points, with daily losses of 0.76%.
