Motor Oil is also building a position in the coffee market, with Taresso increasing its sales by 63% within one year and coming within a breath of 6 million euros. The rapid growth was accompanied, however, by investments, increased borrowing and a drop in profitability.
In 2025, Taresso (i.e. Core Innovations, a subsidiary of the Motor Oil group, acquired 60% of the company on 23 December 2024, which is active in the standardization and wholesale and retail sale of coffee, having a production unit in Corinth and a network of partners) recorded sales of 5.904 million euros, compared with 3.615 million euros in 2024.
This is an increase of 63%, which management links to the continued expansion of the sales network. Gross profits increased, to 2.101 million euros from 1.541 million euros. However, the gross margin narrowed to 35.6% from 42.6%, while EBITDA declined to 523 thousand euros from 579 thousand euros.
The drop was even greater on the bottom line, with pre-tax profits having been limited to 19.8 thousand euros from 342.8 thousand euros and net profits to 11.8 thousand euros, from 238.1 thousand euros in 2024. The company attributes the pressure on the margin mainly to the increase in costs.
During the year, Taresso made purchases of tangible fixed assets and intangible assets worth 3.3 million euros; as a result, the company's total assets increased to 6.772 million euros from 2.867 million euros at the end of 2024.
The investment expansion was supported by new borrowing. Its loans reached 3.751 million euros, compared with 632 thousand euros in 2024. At the end of the year, cash reserves had been reduced to 67.4 thousand euros, from 701.8 thousand euros at the end of 2024.
Within this year, the conversion of Taresso from a Private Company to a Société Anonyme was completed, with share capital of 1.609 million euros.
