Bright and beautiful

Thousands of exotic orchids and tropical plants will feature in Tropical Extravaganza - the first festival of the "Biodiversity Year at Kew 2010" events programme at the renowned botanic gardens in west London. Rising from the pond at the heart of the Princess of Wales Conservatory, heated to an appealing 22°C, the centrepiece of the event will be biodiversity island, a sculptural display dripping with hundreds of varieties of bright, colourful plants and flowers.

Down at Heal's

Highly collectable arts and crafts pieces by Ambrose Heal will be for sale in the Heal's Antiques Selling Exhibition, which opens at the historic interiors company's flagship store in Tottenham Court Road, London, this weekend. Part of the celebrations to mark 200 years of "design and inspiration", the display will include pieces dating up to the 1950s, including items from the 1898 Fine Feathers Suite, elements of which have fetched prices up to £20,000.

Eco-friendly Atlanta

From Wednesday, the Museum of Design Atlanta will be going Beyond Bricks and Sticks. Highlighting the US city's achievements in green building, this multimedia exhibition will travel around the city, to locations including the World of Coca-Cola, the CNN center, the Cobb Galleria, the DeKalb School of the Arts, and the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center, revealing how design can open up eco-friendly opportunites for its citizens.
