Cold Specks: I Predict a Graceful Expulsion

The tabular content relating to this article is not available to view. Apologies in advance for the inconvenience caused.

Cold Specks is a Canadian singer in her 20s who hides behind another pseudonym (Al Spx). Her music draws inspiration from the eldritch rural blues and gospel of the American South. Produced by PJ Harvey collaborator Rob Ellis, I Predict a Graceful Expulsion places Speck's strong voice centre stage, echoes of Mahalia Jackson shading into the rich retro-modern cadences of Adele. Her reluctance to reveal herself lends the music a degree of mystery, but not enough: the songs hover between genuine soulfulness and the blandly palatable.
