RumerInto Colour
(Atlantic)
"I don't want to lose control," Rumer sings on her third album, Into Colour.
The Londoner proves as good as her word, turning in a measured set of songs imbued with the spirit of sophisticated 1970s songcraft. Tasteful Philly soul and orchestral pop provide a smooth backdrop to the singer's slow honeyed voice, drums tip-tapping tactfully, strings swirling airily, piano tracing polished patterns.
It's a pleasant enough way to pass the time but, alas, dull: the restraint drains the songs of drama or interest and the slow tempo is soporific.
