COWEN GROUP INC
The investment bank announced a series of quantitative trading hires from Fidelity Capital Markets and Morgan Stanley . It hired Rafael Paredes and Andrew Chao, both formerly at Fidelity Capital Markets where they worked as vice president and head of portfolio trading and vice president of portfolio trading, respectively. It also hired Kahina Madoun, Roman Kumits and Ihab Massry as vice presidents, reporting to Stuart Gould, head of portfolio trading. Madoun and Kumits were both previously at Morgan Stanley, while Cowen was at Fidelity Capital Markets.
SAGENT ADVISORS
The independent M&A advisory firm has hired David Bain and Michael Wilkins, both formerly at Wachovia Securities, as managing directors, further expanding its technology, media and telecommunications advisory business. Bain, 42, and Wilkins, 35, will open Sagent's new office in San Francisco.
BLACKSTONE GROUP
The private equity firm has hired Tom Kelly, previously a managing director at KEMA Partners, as a managing director in its corporate advisory group. Kelly, to be based in its Menlo Park, California, office, will head a new initiative to provide private capital fundraising to businesses.
MOELIS & CO
The boutique investment bank has hired Jared Dermont, most recently a managing director at Rothschild, as a managing director in its recapitalization and restructuring group.
BANK OF NEW YORK MELLON CORP
The bank named Julian Poodhun, Huw Rees and Kelly Wilson to its alternative investment and broker dealer global client management division.
UBS
Switzerland's largest bank by assets named Alex Wilmot-Sitwell, a veteran UBS banker to replace the head of its troubled investment banking unit, Jerker Johansson.
HELVETICA WEALTH MANAGEMENT PARTNERS AG
The provider of international asset management services named Roy Tashi as executive chairman.
MATRIX GROUP
The privately owned financial services group named John Owen as chief operating officer and finance director. Owen joins from ING where he was chief operating officer of the wholesale banking division.
PIPER JAFFRAY LTD
The investment bank named Alastair Bishop as Principal, Senior Research Analyst with immediate effect.
NOBLE
The independent investment bank named Peter Tracey and John Millar as co-heads of Corporate Broking and Equity Capital Markets. Both Tracey and Millar join from Merrill Lynch . Noble also named James Staveley as Associate Director. Staveley joins from Citigroup.
